about

Hi. I’m Aderyn (they/them).

I’m a writer from Asheville, NC, and have lived in the Blue Ridge for over twenty years. I love anything dark, heart-wrenching, and atmospheric, and my work reflects it.

I’ve worked in logistics (long-haul expedited freight), mental health, food & bev, indie bookstores, and freelance editing. I’m full of stories and I have a passion for helping others in whatever capacity I can. Sometimes I do stand-up, most of the time I write books.

Most of my favorite stories take place on or around Halloween (BALLAD by Maggie Stiefvater, THE HALLOWEEN TREE by Ray Bradbury, THE CROW by James O’Barr) or include some kind of spooky elements. I have a list of favorites on Goodreads.

I was a 2018 Pitch Wars mentee! Interview here.

Trauma is personal territory & I write about it frequently. Mental health, LGBTQIA+ issues, and grief are all part of who I am, and representing them in my writing is incredibly important to me. As a teenager, much of what I read and watched didn’t give me a whole lot of hope. I’m so glad to see creators turning those narratives around, because they went through it, too.

Horror is my jam. I love spooky, supernatural, & atmospheric horror, slasher & gore, not so much. Anything to do with mythology, contemporary fantasy, or sci-fi catch my interest right away. I read tons of graphic novels, webtoons, and manga, and RPGs tend to be my favorite games.

Psychology. I hold a Bachelors of Science in Psychology with a counseling emphasis. I’ve volunteered with LGBTQIA+ youth groups, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and worked in acute mental health with adults, veterans, and teens. Trauma studies in particular are close to my heart.

Still curious? I have an FAQ here.
